HOW TO READ A PEDIGREE

THE CAT'S NAME

The first name is the cattery name where the cat was born.

The second name is the actual name of the cat

The 3rd name ( if applicable) is the name of the cattery the cat belongs to.

Exemple: (my male)  X-Quisit Moussaillon of Naobie

X-Quisit:       the cattery where he comes from
                                       Moussaillon: his name
                                       Naobie       : my cattery name.

If there are only 2 names - exemple: Naobie Mini-Fée

The cat was born at Naobie cattery and still belongs to the cattery

DIFFERENT ASSOCIATIONS, DIFFERENT TITLES

The cats of Naobie cattery are registered with both the Canadian Cat Association (CCA) and the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA)

.

Although calculating points is similar, the titles may differ as do the requirements to obtain them. Here is an explanation of the differences.

 THE CANADIAN CAT ASSOCIATION (CCA)

CHAMPION  (CH)

To become a champion, a cat must correspond to the standard of its breed. The cat must be presented under four different judges and obtain 4 purple ribbons. Once the cat has obtained it's champion title, he will be eligible to obtain more prestigious titles

GRAND CHAMPION  (GC)

To become a Grand Champion, a cat must obtain 150 points from 3 different judges and must have made a final in the top 5 positions.

The best champion in a ring will receive 1 point for each champion present in the ring that he has beaten
The 2nd best champion in the ring will receive 90 % of the points that the best champion will have received.
     The 2nd best champion     "      "    "       "      80 %   "     "         "    "      "         "     "
     The 2nd best champion     "      "    "       "      70 %   "     "         "    "       "        "     "
     The 2nd best champion     "      "    "       "      60 %   "     "         "    "      "         "     "
     The 2nd best champion     "      "    "       "      50 %   "     "         "    "      "         "     "
     The 2nd best champion     "      "    "       "      40 %   "     "         "    "      "         "     "
     The 2nd best champion     "      "    "       "      30 %   "     "         "    "      "         "     "
     The 2nd best champion     "      "    "       "      20 %   "     "         "    "      "         "     "
     The 2nd best champion     "      "    "       "      10 %   "     "         "    "      "        "      "

The best champion of each breed may receive 1 grand point for each champion present that he has beaten. As a champion can receive only 1 point per champion beaten, in the case where a cat that was the best of breed (received the purple ribbon) is called to a final, only the points made during the final will be counted.

Once Grand Champion, the cat can work towards other titles. The cat will now begin competing against other grand champions only.

In all cases, the cat must have obtained points from 3 different judges to obtain the title.

 DOUBLE GRAND CHAMPION (DGC)

The cat obtains 1 point for each grand champion present and beaten. The cat must obtain 75 points and must have made a final in the top 3 positions to become a double grand champion.

 MASTER GRAND CHAMPION  (MGC)

The cat obtains 1 point for each grand champion present and beaten. The cat must obtain 125 points and must have made a final as best cat to become a master grand champion.

SUPREME MASTER GRAND CHAMPION (SMGC)

The cat obtains 1 point for each grand champion present and beaten. The cat must obtain 175 points and must have made two finals as best cat to become a supreme master grand champion. Few cats are able to attain this leve.

CANADIAN NATIONAL WINNER (CNW)

The 15 cats that have had the most points in a given year for each of the classes, kitten, championship and premiership become Canadian National Winners. The rank will be established counting the total number of national points obtained by each cat for the show year which begins on May 1st and ends of April 30 each year.

National points are determined differently than titles.

 ELITE

The title of Elite is reserved for breeding cats and is given to recognize the quality of the male or female as a breeder. A cat shall obtain this title once its offspring have obtained the title of Grand Champion or Grand Premier (a neutered grand champion). A male must have sired 8 GC or GP and a female 3 GC or GP to obtain this title.

TITLES AND CERTIFIED PEDIGREES

A certified pedigree will show only the titles obtained in the association from which it is obtained. For example, when reading a pedigree delivered by the Cat Fanciers' Association, only the titles obtained in that association will appear even if the cat has also obtained titles in another association such as the Canadian Cat Association.

THE CAT FANCIERS ASSOCIATION (CFA)

 CHAMPION

The cat must obtain 6 red-white-blue ribbons from 6 different judges.

 GRAND CHAMPION

The cat must obtain 200 points following the same principles as CCA.

In CFA, the titles after Grand Champion do not exist as in CCA. It is however possible to obtain regional and national titles.

 NATIONAL TITLES

The 25 cats that have had the most points in a given year for each of the classes, kitten, championship and premiership become National Winners. The rank will be established counting the total number of national points obtained by each cat for the show year which begins on May 1st and ends of April 30 each year.

 REGIONAL WINNER (RW)

CFA is a worldwide registry and is therefore divided into 8 regions. Cats from each of the different regions can also accumulated points towards a regional which is obtained the same way as the national titles.

 BREED WINNER (BW)

The cat that has obtained the most points of the cats shown in its own breed during the show year obtain the title ofBreed Winner (BW)

 DISTINGUISHED MERIT

This title is similar to the Elite title in CCA. However, in the case of CFA, a male must produce 15 grand champions or grand premiers and a female must produce 5 grand champions or grand premiers.
